Toll tax increase, 1st April 2023: Toll tax is going to increase once again across the country. From the night of March 31, toll will become expensive at many places. In such a situation, the problems for the general public are going to increase in the coming days.

Toll has been increased at some places and increase in toll tax is possible in other states including UP, Punjab, Rajasthan from April 1. Now traveling to and from the capital Delhi will also become more expensive. Due to the high cost of toll, you will have to pay more for the local pass.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) may increase toll rates from April 1, leaving the pockets of individuals traveling via National Highways (NHs) and expressways tighter than ever. According to reports, toll prices are expected to increase by 5% to 10%.

As per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, the fee rates are to be revised from April 1 every year. In such a situation, policy decisions are being taken on toll issues from time to time on the basis of requirements.

How much will be the tax on small vehicles?

Toll rates are expected to increase by 5% for cars and light vehicles and may go up to 10% for other heavy vehicles. Toll rates are expected to increase for the recently commissioned Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Currently, the toll on the newly opened section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is Rs 2.19 per kilometer and will increase by about 10%.

At present, about 20 thousand vehicles pass on the expressway daily. This figure is expected to increase to 50,000-60,000 in the next six months. Additionally, toll rates are expected to increase for the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Monthly local pass will also increase concern

The monthly pass provided to persons living within 20 kms of toll plaza is expected to increase by 10%. With the new toll rates, NHAI aims to increase revenue and provide better maintenance and operation services to road users. However, this move will increase the cost of the citizens even more.

Toll will also increase in UP, Rajasthan

National Highway-9 in UP has been started only a few years ago and toll has been increased several times on it. Due to this people of Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida have to pay more toll at Chijarsi toll plaza located at Pilkhuwa.

People go to Hapur, Rampur, Moradabad only after crossing this toll. Now apart from this, going towards Kanpur, there is also going to be an increase in toll tax at the toll plaza running near Bara village on the Kanpur-Auraiya Highway from 12 midnight on March 31.

At the same time, toll tax will have to be passed on the National Highway in Rajasthan by paying more than April 1. NHAI operates more than 95 toll booths in Rajasthan. Most of these rates are being revised at toll booths from 12 midnight on March 31. In Punjab too, toll tax is to be increased from April 1.
