Toll Tax Rules: To remove the existing toll plazas on the highways in the country, the government will introduce GPS based toll collection system and other technology in the next six months. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave information about this.
GPS Based Toll System: If you also travel with your car on the highway, then you would not like the time spent at the toll plaza. Efforts are constantly being made by the government to reduce the average time taken at the toll plaza.
In this sequence, the government will introduce GPS based toll collection system and other technology in the next six months to remove the existing toll plazas on the highways in the country. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave information about this.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the purpose of this step is to save vehicles from jam on highways . Gadkari said in a program of industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) currently has toll revenue of Rs 40,000 crore.
In the next two to three years, it will increase to 1.40 lakh crores. He said, ‘The government is considering bringing technology like GPS-based toll system to remove toll plazas located on the highways in the country. We will bring new technology in six months.
Working on Testing Mode
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is working on a trial plan for Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (Automatic Number Plate Reader Camera) for toll collection without stopping the vehicles.
During the financial year 2018-19, the average stopping time of a vehicle at the toll plaza was 8 minutes. After the introduction of FASTag in 2020-21 and 2021-22, the average stopping time of vehicles at the toll plaza has come down to 47 seconds. (Input: PTI)
