PM Fasal Bima Yojana: Get insurance for Rs 1, get compensation of Rs 60000, this scheme is a lifesaver for farmers

PM Fasal Bima Yojana: Under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, crops get protection from risks like drought, storm, storm, unseasonal rain, flood etc. In this, farmers get insurance cover at affordable rates. Similarly, an onion producing farmer from Maharashtra has received compensation of thousands of rupees on a premium of Rs 1.

The central government is running the PM Crop Insurance Scheme to compensate the crop loss of farmers. Under this scheme, Rabi and Kharif crops of farmers are insured. The special thing is that in this PM Crop Insurance Scheme, Kharif crops are insured at only 2 percent premium.

The rest of the premium is paid by the government. The loss of crops of farmers is compensated by the government through insurance. An onion producing farmer from Maharashtra has also taken advantage of this scheme. Farmer Shreyas Tukaram had insured his five acres of onion crop.

Actually farmer Tukaram cultivates onion. He had insured his crop. It rained in the month of April last year. In such a situation, the farmer got compensation of Rs 60,000 under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme. He said that his bet of insuring the crop in this way was successful. Farmer Shreyas told that it was not enough to compensate for the loss, but it covered the cost of sowing. Due to this, he did not have to suffer much loss in onion cultivation.

The scope of PM Kisan increased in Maharashtra

The scope of PM Crop Insurance Scheme is increasing in Maharashtra. Farmers are now inclined towards crop insurance. They are confident that compensation is definitely available under PM Crop Insurance Scheme. A farmer from Naigaon, Maharashtra also insured his crop under PM Crop Insurance Scheme. According to government data, more than 7.43 lakh hectares of onion crop has been insured in Maharashtra in 2024-25. 5 years ago, in 2019-20, this number was only 45,000 hectares. Agriculture department officials say that charging a nominal premium has increased the number of people getting insurance. From the year 2023, farmers in Maharashtra have to pay a premium of only Rs 1.

Maharashtra is at the forefront in onion production

Maharashtra is the largest onion producing state in the country. More than 34 percent of the onion production in the country takes place in Maharashtra. Nashik division is one of the highest onion growing areas in the state. There has been excessive rain here in 4 out of the last 5 seasons. Kharif crops have been damaged due to heavy rains in the last part of the monsoon. Apart from this, heavy rains in summer, especially in 2023, have also damaged the Rabi crop. Farmers have got only the support of crop insurance.

Take advantage of insurance like this

Farmers of many states of the country can take advantage of PM Crop Insurance Scheme. For this, farmers have to fill a form. You can apply it online or offline. If farmers want to apply online, then they can apply by visiting the website of PM Crop Insurance Scheme https://pmfby.gov.in. On the other hand, if you want to apply offline, then you can apply by going to the nearest bank, co-operative society or CSC (Common Service Center). Farmers have to apply for insurance within 10 days of sowing the crop. Only then the crop is considered eligible for insurance.

How much is the premium?

Farmers have to pay the prescribed premium for insurance. Under this, 2% of the insurance amount has to be paid as premium for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and a maximum of 5% for commercial and horticultural crops. The rest is paid by the state and central government. Let us tell you that the PM Crop Insurance Scheme was started by the central government from Kharif season 2016.
