Pan Card Aadhaar Card Linking: Pan Card is a unique ten digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department in India. It is issued in the form of a laminated plastic card (commonly known as PAN card). It serves as a unique identification number for individuals and entities in India for tax purposes. PAN card is used for financial transactions. At the same time, it is very important to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card.
Linking PAN with Aadhaar
The Finance Act 2017 added a new section 139AA to the Income Tax Act 1961, making it mandatory to quote your Aadhaar number while applying for PAN or furnishing return of income with effect from 1 July 2017. If you have not yet linked PAN card with Aadhaar, then you will have to link them before March 31, 2023.

If PAN card is not linked, then from April 1, 2023, you will not be able to use PAN card. Once the PAN card holder misses this deadline, the 10 digit unique alphanumeric number will be deactivated and the PAN card will be closed. In such a situation, check whether your PAN card is linked with Aadhaar card or not.
How to check PAN and Aadhaar linking status
- Go to ‘Quick Links’ on the e-filing portal homepage and click on Link Aadhaar Status.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and click on the link View Aadhaar Status.
- On successful verification, a message will be displayed regarding your Link Aadhaar Status.
