If you are enjoying unlimited 5G data, then your tension is going to increase. TRAI has asked the telecom companies to comply with the FUP. Jio and Airtel are offering unlimited 5G data in their 4G plans.
If you are enjoying unlimited 5G data, then you may get a big shock now. According to a report in the Financial Times, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI can stop Reliance Jio and Airtel from offering unlimited 5G data in plans. This action of TRAI came after the complaint of Vodafone-Idea (Vi), in which it was said that Jio and Airtel are making the market difficult for Vodafone-Idea with cheap unlimited 5G plans.
Vodafone-Idea left behind in 5G service
Vodafone-Idea alleges that Jio and Airtel have a strong hold in the market. Voda claims that these companies have a market share of more than 30 percent in each circle and their 5G tariffs are making it difficult for Voda to compete in the market as they are priced below cost. Vodafone-Idea has not started its 5G service yet, but the company is offering 5G ready SIM cards. On the other hand, Jio and Airtel have started providing 5G service in their 4G packs only.
Offering unlimited data against FUP
After examining the matter, TRAI said that the tariffs of Airtel and Jio are not below cost and cannot be called predatory. Along with this, TRAI also said that offering 5G service at the rate of 4G is also not right to be called predatory. However, according to TRAI, offering unlimited data in any plan is against FUP i.e. Fair Usage Policy and Airtel and Jio should stop doing so.
Users will have to send data usage alert
If TRAI issues a new order in this matter, then Jio and Airtel will be able to keep the rates of their 4G data plans in force, but after the end of the data limit, they will have to slow down the internet speed till the next cycle. It is being told that now the telecom operators will have to give information about the internet speed available after the data limit is over with the plan. Along with this, companies will also have to send alerts to the users when the data usage is 50, 90 and 100 percent.
