Prime Minister Narendra Modi today i.e. on Monday (11 December) launched the Bima Sakhi Yojana from Haryana. The aim of LIC’s Bima Sakhi Yojana is to make half the population i.e. women financially empowered and self-reliant.
The women who become a part of this scheme will be called ‘Bima Sakhi’. Their job will be to encourage the women of their area to get insurance and help them in this work.
What is Bima Sakhi Yojana?
This scheme of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is for women aged 18 to 70 years, who are 10th pass. They will first be given training for three years. Their financial understanding will be increased and they will be told how to explain the importance of insurance.
During this training period, women will also get some money. After training, women will be able to work as LIC insurance agents. At the same time, BA pass insurance Sakhis can also get a chance to become development officers.
Eligibility to become a Bima Sakhi
- Only women can apply for the Bima Sakhi scheme.
- They must have a Matriculation/High School/10th pass certificate.
- Only women between 18 and 70 years of age can apply for this scheme.
- After three years of training, women will work as insurance agents.
Benefits of becoming a Bima Sakhi
Under the Bima Sakhi scheme, women will be able to be appointed as LIC agents after three years of training. However, they will not be regular employees of LIC and will not get the benefits of regular employees.
Women selected under LIC’s Bima Sakhi (MCA scheme) will have to fulfill certain performance norms every year. These will be set to ensure the success of the scheme and the progress of the participants.
How much money will Bima Sakhi get
Women joining Bima Sakhi Yojana will get a total of more than 2 lakh rupees during the three-year training. In this, they will get 7 thousand rupees in the first year, 6 thousand in the second year and 5 thousand rupees per month in the third year. This does not include bonus commission. The condition for this will be that 65 percent of the policies sold by the women should remain active (in-force) till the end of the next year.
This means that if a woman has sold 100 policies in the first year, then 65 of these policies should remain effective till the end of the second year. Its purpose is to ensure that the agents not only sell the policies but also try to retain them.
