Insurance Regulator Guidelines: For the first time in the year 2017, IRDA issued guidelines on information and cyber security for insurance companies, which were later implemented on all intermediaries in the year 2022.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has asked insurance companies to educate their employees about the use of social media. The regulator says that insurance companies should set guidelines for their employees in this regard (Social Media Usage Guidelines).
This led to the guideline
The insurance regulator has asked to ensure that no unauthenticated or confidential information related to the company should be made public through social media, for this the employees need to be trained. IRDA said that the reputation of an organization is largely related to the behavior of its employees and social media should be used in such a way that there is value addition to the business of the organization.
Insurance employees should avoid these things
In this regard, IRDA has issued information and cyber security guidelines for all insurance companies. It has a specific section on Acceptable Use of Social Media, which states that employees should avoid sharing any unconfirmed or confidential information on any blog, chat platform, discussion platform, messenger site or social networking site.
Put disclaimer with post
IRDA also said that while making personal posts on the Internet, individuals should make it clear that these are their views and do not represent the views of the organization. According to the insurance regulator, adding this disclaimer together while posting a personal post will not cause any confusion to the readers.
The instruction came for the first time in 2017
IRDA said that these guidelines are applicable to all insurance companies, including foreign re-insurance branches and insurance intermediaries. IRDA had issued guidelines on information and cyber security for insurance companies for the first time in the year 2017, which was later implemented on all intermediaries in the year 2022.
