The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has told insurance companies that they will have to create Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs for new and existing holders taking insurance policies.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has told insurance companies that they will have to create Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID i.e. Ayushman Card for existing and new policy holders. Under this unique ID, citizens can access all the information related to their health.
This ID keeps complete data of your health. Besides, with its help you can also choose the right hospital and doctors. Apart from this, you can also avoid long queues at the time of registration and you can save your time. Health ID is part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) being implemented by the Health Authority (NHA).
Aiming to cover all Indians
So far 402.6 million ABHA IDs have been created. All Indians are to be covered under this ID. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and NHA are trying to accelerate the creation of ABHA ID from the year 2022. At the same time, efforts have also been made to speed up insurance claim processing.
Facility to make ID will be available in the form itself
The insurance regulator, in its directive, said all insurers will have to obtain the member’s consent to capture the ABHA number of people seeking insurance cover and to share medical records with insurers or third party administrators (TPAs). For this, they will have to be given the right to choose the facility of Aura option during the insurance form itself (including online form).
Will help in identifying insured persons
IRDA has also told insurers that they can take help in creating ABHA number through agents. Existing policy holders can create their ABHA number during the renewal process. Abha ID will help in digitally identifying the insurance holders and will also provide health related facilities.
