Niti Aayog (Health) member said that we were very disturbed to know that some hospitals are doing such things, which breaks the trust and increases the cost of treatment
The government has expressed concern over the arbitrariness of hospitals and insurance companies. Niti Aayog member (health) VK Paul said that hospitals and insurance companies need to build trust and work according to the rules. He also expressed concern over unethical behavior in the health service sector to loot patients. VK Paul said in a program that there is a need to build trust between insurance companies and hospitals, and insurance companies and insured patients.
He said, “We were very upset to know that some hospitals are doing things that break trust and increase the cost of treatment. When the demand is high, some hospitals increase their prices.” Paul also said that some hospitals are adopting variable fees, in which the prices keep changing according to the demand. Along with this, a surcharge is also levied for some facilities.
Need to work according to the rules
VK Paul said, “Some hospitals are charging extra for operation theatres for certain hours. Even though this happens very rarely, it is really bothering us.” He stressed that India’s healthcare sector should work according to the rules.
