In such a situation, insurance is talked about for railway passengers. This is a facility provided by Indian Railways to give compensation to passengers in case of death or injury. The benefit of railway travel insurance is available only to those passengers who have taken insurance while buying the ticket. The insurance premium has to be paid only 45 paise, which provides coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. But most of the passengers are unaware of this plan.
Who gets the insurance facility?
Railway travel insurance is especially available to those passengers who book railway tickets online. Passengers who buy tickets from the counter or travel in general coaches do not get the benefit of this insurance. This insurance is optional. It is up to the passengers to take it or not.
Passengers who book tickets online get benefits
If you have booked a railway ticket online, the insurance company compensates the loss suffered by the passenger in case of an accident. In case of death of a passenger or complete loss of any body part in a railway accident, an amount of Rs 10 lakh is provided. In cases of permanent partial disability, an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh is given to the passenger. At the same time, it offers Rs 2 lakh for the treatment expenses in case of injury.
How can railway passengers avail the benefits of insurance?
To avail travel insurance, passengers need to choose the optional insurance option while booking tickets online, irrespective of the class they are travelling in. Passengers are charged only 45 paise for this. On choosing the insurance option, a link is sent to the passenger’s email and mobile number to fill in the nominee details. Having a nominee in the insurance policy makes it easier to get insurance claims.
