Indian Railways offers an insurance policy that provides coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for just 45 paise. Here is how you can claim this insurance in case of an accident.

Coverage Details

IRCTC’s travel insurance policy provides coverage based on the severity of the incident:

Death: Coverage up to ₹10 lakh.

Permanent disability: Coverage up to ₹10 lakh.

Temporary partial disability: Coverage up to ₹7.5 lakh.

Hospitalization expenses: Coverage up to ₹2 lakh.

Transportation of dead body: Coverage up to ₹10,000.

Previous insurance cost

Initially this insurance was available for 35 paise, but now its price has been increased to 45 paise. To avail this insurance, passengers have to book their tickets through the IRCTC website or app. During the booking process, the option of travel insurance will appear, which can be selected with a single click.

How to claim insurance

In case of a rail accident, insurance can be claimed through the link provided by IRCTC after reservation. This link allows passengers to enter the details of their nominee. To claim the insurance, you have to upload a copy of your railway ticket and the specified ID card.

Required documents

The following documents are required to claim the insurance:

  • Accident confirmation from railway authorities.
  • Accident claim form signed by the nominee or legal heir.
  • Photographs of the disabled passenger before and after the accident.
  • Hospitalisation documents.
  • Last doctor’s report.
  • All bills must be signed and stamped.
  • Official report giving details of the deceased passenger in case of death.

The claim must be submitted within four months of the incident. This insurance provides a way to financially aid those affected by railway accidents, ensuring some relief during tough times.
