Indian Railway : Now IRCTC is giving insurance of Rs 10 lakh for 45 paise, not 35 paise, know how you can claim

Recently, a horrific train accident took place in Siliguri, West Bengal, in which nine people died and many others were injured. In this accident, the stationary Kanchenjunga Express was hit from behind by a speeding freight train.

Although such tragic accidents cannot be completely prevented, the wounds can be minimized to some extent through insurance claims. Indian Railways offers an insurance policy that provides coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for just 45 paise. Here is how you can claim this insurance in case of an accident.

Insurance for just 45 paise

The question arises: How can passengers maximize their safety while traveling by train? Let’s know the answer. In today’s world, where the purchasing power of even a rupee is limited, Indian Railways offers adequate travel insurance for just 45 paise.

Coverage Details

IRCTC’s travel insurance policy provides coverage based on the severity of the incident:

Death: Coverage up to ₹10 lakh.

Permanent disability: Coverage up to ₹10 lakh.

Temporary partial disability: Coverage up to ₹7.5 lakh.

Hospitalization expenses: Coverage up to ₹2 lakh.

Transportation of dead body: Coverage up to ₹10,000.

Previous insurance cost

Initially this insurance was available for 35 paise, but now its price has been increased to 45 paise. To avail this insurance, passengers have to book their tickets through the IRCTC website or app. During the booking process, the option of travel insurance will appear, which can be selected with a single click.

How to claim insurance

In case of a rail accident, insurance can be claimed through the link provided by IRCTC after reservation. This link allows passengers to enter the details of their nominee. To claim the insurance, you have to upload a copy of your railway ticket and the specified ID card.

Required documents

The following documents are required to claim the insurance:

  • Accident confirmation from railway authorities.
  • Accident claim form signed by the nominee or legal heir.
  • Photographs of the disabled passenger before and after the accident.
  • Hospitalisation documents.
  • Last doctor’s report.
  • All bills must be signed and stamped.
  • Official report giving details of the deceased passenger in case of death.

The claim must be submitted within four months of the incident. This insurance provides a way to financially aid those affected by railway accidents, ensuring some relief during tough times.
