If the disease is already there then it will not be covered in the old policy. After the implementation of this rule, now the health insurance company will bear the cost of hospitalization and treatment of the patient. Now diseases like depression and Alzheimer’s will also be covered.
Insurance companies will now cover mental illnesses too
Significantly, a few months ago, Irdai had issued another order. In this, insurance companies will be able to include hospitals in the panel as per their wish. IRDA had taken this decision with the aim of relaxing the norms for cashless facility to the patients. With this decision, patients are now getting cashless treatment facility in more and more hospitals.
Under this, insurance companies will have to make a policy at the board level. After this the insurance company can empanel any hospital.
