electric vehicles Insurance : Will there be insurance protection in case of fire in electric vehicles, know what is the opinion of experts

Nowadays, the incidents of fire in electric scooters have increased a lot, due to which the vehicle owners are facing financial loss. So can a general motor insurance cover be taken to avoid this loss or is there a separate insurance for EVs?

An EPluto G7 electric scooter of Pure EV caught fire in Telangana on May 11. No one was injured in this incident but the scooter was completely burnt. This is not the first such incident. Last month also such an incident had come to the fore in Najimabad, Telangana. In these cases, the physical loss is less and the economic loss is being seen more.

In such a situation, now the question arises whether insurance can be taken like other vehicles to avoid this loss. Are insurance companies offering insurance on EV or is it being covered under Comprehensive Motor Insurance Policy? We talked to an insurance expert about this.

Talking to

News18, Insurance expert Sweety Manoj Jain said that no separate guidelines have been given by the government or insurance companies on the insurance of electric vehicles at present. He said that it should be covered only under a comprehensive motor insurance policy.

According to Manoj Jain, not many insurance claims have been made on the incidents of fire in EVs and as the insurance claims increase, some policy will definitely be ready in this regard. That is, at present there is no separate insurance available for fire incidents in EVs and you should take a comprehensive motor insurance policy to protect your vehicle.

What is Comprehensive Motor Insurance Policy

This insurance policy usually covers the damage caused to the vehicle in any way. This includes fire and damage to the vehicle during natural calamity, etc. Apart from a few exceptions, if your EV catches fire in any way, it will be covered under the Comprehensive Motor Insurance Policy. For example, if the EV catches fire while charging the battery or if the vehicle catches fire while driving on the road, it will be covered under this insurance.

In what situation can the claim be rejected

, according to another expert related to the insurance sector, if you have modified your EV or any vehicle and due to that fire is not covered under insurance, then your claim will be rejected. At the same time, he has also suggested taking a comprehensive motor insurance policy to avoid financial loss due to fire in EV.
