Doctor visit in health insurance will also be cashless soon, no fees will have to be paid for consultation, know what is the preparation of IRDAI

New Delhi. Insurance regulatory body IRDAI is going to give another big relief to health insurance holders. Apart from hospitalisation, there is now a plan to make doctor’s consultation cashless or the doctor’s fees will be reimbursed. In fact, the recent directive of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India on the adoption of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) by doctors will make it easier for insurance companies to include the benefit of OPD cover in health insurance policies.

As a part of ABDM, IRDAI has recommended creation of a Healthcare Professional Registry to build a network of doctors and healthcare professionals. The HPR will facilitate insurers to develop a network of empaneled doctors, who will either have cashless facility, or reimburse the fees paid to such doctors through reimbursement to the insured persons

, health insurance industry insiders said that with the introduction of Healthcare Professional ID, the healthcare ecosystem will bring better transparency among all stakeholders such as insurers, TPAs, doctors and even policyholders. Will come The insurance regulator has advised to make best use of Healthcare Professional Registry for building a network of doctors, physicians and healthcare professionals to enable comprehensive OPD coverage in health insurance policies. This mission has been envisaged in an effective endeavor to meet the expectations of the customers and reach out to a wider customer base.

Apart from this, it will also make it easier for doctors to buy professional indemnity cover for themselves, thereby protecting them from cases of wrong treatment, negligent misdiagnosis etc. Now the next time you visit a doctor in an Out Patient Department (OPD) as a health insurance policyholder, you will not have to pay the fees, provided your policy includes OPD benefit, which is availed at the time of purchasing the policy Is.
