CGHS Revised Rates: New rates of CGHS have been issued by the government. The government will pay more money for treatment in CGHS empaneled hospitals. After this decision, the burden on the exchequer of the Central Government will increase from Rs 240 crore to Rs 300 crore.

There have been two major changes in the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) under ‘Health Security’. Both these changes will be beneficial for central employees. New rates of CGHS have been issued by the government. The government will pay more money for treatment in CGHS empaneled hospitals. After this decision, the burden on the exchequer of the Central Government will increase from Rs 240 crore to Rs 300 crore.
Rules changed after 2014
The change in the rate of CGHS has been done after 2014. The government has increased the consultation fee for OPD / IPD from Rs 150 to Rs 350. Similarly, the ICU charge has also been changed and it has been increased to Rs 5,400. In this, Rs 4500 is for private ward and Rs 862 for NABH. Similarly, the room rent has been increased by one and a half times to Rs 1500, Rs 3000 and Rs 4500.
Semi-private ward charges Rs 3,000
The charge for semi-private ward has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. For private wards, it has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,500. The government has simplified the referral process by allowing the use of video calls. Earlier, the beneficiary had to personally visit the CGHS Wellness Center to obtain referral to the hospital.
In case the beneficiary is unable to visit the CGHS Wellness Centre, he/she may send someone to that location to obtain a referral. The medical officer will see the document before allowing the beneficiary to be taken to the hospital through referral.
Also, the government has allowed video call option for referrals so as to facilitate the process. Let us tell you that under CGHS, more than 44 lakh employees and pensioners are taking advantage. Let us tell you that earlier on May 6, 2014, the new rates of CGSH came into effect.
