Aadhaar Card: From PAN card to bank accounts, everything is linked to your Aadhaar, making it an extremely important document for every Indian citizen. Many government sponsored schemes have also made Aadhaar card mandatory for their beneficiaries.
Hence this document becomes equally important for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). However, NRIs are often confused about whether they can apply for an Aadhaar card or not. UIDAI has clarified on its website that an NRI holding a valid Indian passport can apply for an Aadhaar card. The process of applying for an Aadhaar card is the same for NRIs as for the rest of the Indian citizens.
How can NRI apply for Aadhaar Card?
UIDAI has also mentioned the step-by-step process for NRI to apply for Aadhaar card.
Step 1: Visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Step 2: Make sure to carry your valid Indian passport with you.
Step 3: Take the enrollment form and fill it with all the required details. Make sure that the details filled by you in the enrollment form match with the details mentioned in your passport.
Step 4: The applicant has to mention his/her email id in the form.
Step 5: Afterwards ask the operator to enroll you as NRI.
Step 6: The NRI applicant is also required to sign a declaration while applying for Aadhaar card. The declaration is slightly different for NRIs, so read it carefully and fill it.
Step 7: Help the operator to fill in all the details of you as an NRI.
Step 8: Your passport will be scanned and submitted to the application by the operator as a proof of identity.
Step 9: Get your fingers and eyes scanned to complete the biometric capture process.
Step 10: The most important part of the process is to check the details filled in the application form carefully. NRI applicants need to check the details thoroughly.
Step 11: After the completion of the filling process, obtain the Acknowledgment Slip which mentions the 14 digit Enrollment ID of the applicant and the date and time stamp.
