IRCTC’s travel insurance for just 35 paise, know its benefits and claim method

First category of insurance cover in case of death

IRCTC offers this travel insurance at a premium of just Rs 0.35 per passenger from November 1, 2021. This includes all types of taxes. In case of any accident, the amount received under this travel insurance depends on the category of loss suffered by the passenger. A total of 5 types of categories have been decided for this. The first category includes death. Many types of situations have been described in this also. It says that if the passenger dies due to injuries within 12 minutes of the accident, then 100 percent of the sum assured is paid.

Second category of insurance cover in case of permanent disability

Permanent disability is included in the second category. It states that if the passenger becomes permanently disabled within 12 months of the accident while travelling, then he gets 100 percent of the sum insured. Certain conditions have been set for permanent disability. Upon fulfillment of these conditions, the passenger is entitled to receive an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh.

Third category of insurance on permanent partial disability

The third category includes permanent partial disability. It says that if the passenger becomes permanently partially disabled within 12 months of the accident, he will get 75 percent of the sum insured. There are certain conditions for permanent partial disability. Only when these conditions are fulfilled, the passenger gets a certificate of permanent partial disability.

Fourth category of insurance for hospital treatment expenses

The fourth category includes the expenses incurred during hospital treatment. A limit of Rs 2 lakh has been fixed for this. This means that if due to an accident, the passenger needs to be admitted to the hospital for the treatment of his injuries, then the insurance company will bear the expenses of up to Rs 2 lakh for the treatment. Most people do not know about this category. Passengers are generally aware of the compensation they receive only in case of death in an accident.

Fifth category – for the expenses of taking the dead body home

Very few people know about the fifth category. It says that if a passenger dies due to a train accident, the expenses incurred on taking his body to his home or for cremation will be paid by the insurance company. A limit of Rs 10,000 has been fixed for this. There is no need to submit any kind of document for this claim.

What is the process of making claim?

A claim for loss suffered by a passenger due to an accident during travel can be filed within four months. The nominee of the passenger or his legal heir can make this claim at the nearest office of the insurance company. For this, some types of documents will have to be submitted to the insurance company. In case of death of a passenger, the nominee or legal heir will have to submit a report to the railway authority to confirm the accident. In this report, it is necessary to include the name of the passenger whose nominee wants to submit a claim in the list of deceased.
