There is news that the Modi government may take a decision to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) of central employees. According to different media reports, DA hike for government employees may be announced in today’s cabinet meeting.
DA may increase by 4%
Let us tell you that the news agency PTI reported in February this year that the central government may increase the DA by four percentage points to 42% from the current 38% for its more than one crore employees and pensioners.
This hike will be effective from January 1, 2023. Explain that currently more than one crore central government employees and pensioners are getting 38% DA. The last revision on DA hike was done on 28 September 2022 and was effective from 1 July 2022.
Slight drop in inflation in February
The DA for employees and pensioners is worked out on the basis of the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) released by the Ministry of Labor every month. As per the latest data, retail inflation eased marginally to 6.44% in February. In February, inflation remained above the upper band of the RBI’s target of 6% for the second consecutive month due to a marginal decline in the prices of food articles and fuel related items.
