Cyber Fraud cases are increasing rapidly. Thousands of cases of banking and digital payment fraud are being registered daily. Scammers are stealing money in new ways. The most common way is SMS scam, by which people have been tricked. They are threatened by saying bank account seized and asked to click on the link received on SMS. Once a person gets tricked and believes the SMS and clicks on the link, their phone gets hacked and they lose their money. If your bank account is in HDFC Bank, then you need to be careful, because a phishing SMS is reaching people.
On Twitter, a user named Sanghamitra Majumdar posted a print shot of an SMS which read- ‘HDFC customer your HDFC net banking will be suspended today, please update your PAN card now go to below link.’ There is also a link in the message. Another user replied to this tweet and shared an SMS where he was asked to update his KYC. Alerting them about the phishing scam, HDFC Bank Care replied to the tweet and wrote, ‘We request you not to respond to unknown numbers asking for PAN card/KYC update or any other banking information. ‘
HDFC Bank further wrote in the Twitter thread, ‘Remember, the bank will never ask for PAN details, OTP, UPI, VPA / MPIN, Customer ID & Password, Card Number, ATM PIN and CVV. Please do not share personal details.
What is Phishing Scam?
Scammers send fake messages and ask people for personal information like account details, OTP and identification number. If someone clicks on such a link, the scammer gets remote access to their mobile or bank credentials. Then the scammers will empty your bank account.
How to avoid
- Do not share personal details with anyone.
- Always have strong passwords.
- If you get the message, contact the bank manager.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
