IRCTC has given great news for railway passengers. Now you will get a travel insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh for just 45 paise. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made major changes in its new insurance policy. This insurance scheme is optional. But once chosen, it will be applicable to all passengers traveling under the same PNR. This scheme is only for Indian citizens and can be availed only through e-ticket booking.
Who can avail this scheme?
This insurance is available only to Indian citizens. Foreign nationals and passengers booking tickets through agents or other travel agencies cannot avail it. Children below 5 years of age, whose tickets are booked without a seat, will not be included in this insurance. However, children aged 5-11 years will be given this insurance on booking with or without a seat.
Insurance benefits and sum assured – Four major benefits are given to passengers under this insurance policy.
Transfer of dead body: Cover up to ₹ 10,000 for transfer of dead body after rail accident or other incidents.
Injury treatment expenses: Benefit up to ₹ 2 lakh in case of hospitalization.
Permanent partial disability: In this case, cover up to 75% of the insurance amount i.e. ₹ 7,50,000.
Permanent total disability/death: Cover up to 100% of the insurance amount i.e. ₹ 10 lakh in case of permanent total disability or death in an accident.
How to get insurance cover?
On selecting insurance during ticket booking, passengers will be informed about it through SMS and email. Passengers can see the policy number and other details from the ticket booking history. Nominee information has to be filled on the insurance company’s website after ticket booking. If nominee details are not given, then payment will be made to legal heirs.
Eligibility for the policy
This insurance scheme is applicable only to confirmed and RAC ticket holders. This policy provides financial security to passengers in case of accident or unforeseen events during the journey. This initiative of IRCTC is an effort to provide more security to the passengers at less cost.
