Yogi government implemented livestock insurance scheme, cow insurance is being done for Rs 156

UP News: Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has started Pashudhan Bima Yojana for cattle rearers. Under this scheme, Scheduled Caste and Below Poverty Line (BPL) farmers can get their cows and buffaloes insured by paying only 10% premium. At the same time, general category farmers will have to pay 25% of the premium.

With the Pashudhan Bima Yojana of Yogi government, cattle rearers will be able to get the full amount of insurance in case of death of animals. According to departmental data, Scheduled Caste and BPL farmers can get cow insurance for Rs 156 and buffalo insurance for Rs 187 annually. General category farmers will have to get cow insurance for Rs 400 and buffalo insurance for Rs 465 annually.

The maximum insurance amount for cow has been fixed at Rs 50,000 and for buffalo at Rs 60,000. Talking about the figures, there are about 9 lakh animals in the district, but only 3,254 animals have been insured so far. Out of these, claims have been made for 145 animals under the scheme. Payment has been made for 110 animals, while the claims of 15 persons have been rejected due to various reasons.

Under this scheme of Yogi government, a farmer can get a maximum of five animals insured. Departmental data shows that this initiative was inactive for many years, but now it has been restarted smoothly. Its purpose is to protect livestock farmers from potential risks.

Role of livestock in agriculture
Animal husbandry is considered the backbone of the farmers’ economy. It compensates for the loss in farming. It not only provides natural manure to the fields, but farmers also get a good income by selling milk and calves. As a result, farming and animal husbandry have emerged as complementary businesses, with a significant focus on animal husbandry.

This insurance scheme is important as it provides financial security against loss of livestock. By covering potential risks, it encourages more farmers to engage in livestock farming along with traditional agriculture.
